Analysis of ultrasonic velocities in hydrocarbonmixturesJames

چکیده

Ultrasonic velocity data on hydrocarbon mixtures was shown by Wang and Nur JASA 89, 2725 (1991)] to agree quite well with the predictions of a simple mixing rule (volume average of velocity). The same data is reanalyzed using Wood's formula and the time average approximation. Wood's formula for acoustic velocity is shown to be always less than the time average formula, which is itself always less than the simple mixing rule result. Although the volume average rule agrees best with the data on binary mixtures of 1-decene and 1-octadecene, all these formulas agree with the data to within 1% and, therefore, it is not possible to distinguish among the formulas using this data set. Similar results are also found for six multicomponent hydrocarbon mixtures.

Measurement and Modelling of the Rubber Resilience based on Ultrasonic Non-destructive Testing in Tires

In tire industry, it is very crucial to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of the rubber which is used for production of the tire, to ensure the quality of the final product. Resilience is an important property of a rubber, which cannot be evaluated through direct measurement in production cycle in this industry. Therefore, non-destructive ultrasonic testing, which has been used in man...

Using the Ultrasonic Nondestructive Methods for Prediction of Mechanical Properties of AISI 4140 Alloy Steel

Achieving the mechanical properties of steels after various manufacturing and heat treatment processes is significant and essential. In production lines, after producing the specific and standard samples, mechanical properties have been measured by destructive processes which cause waste of cost and time. In addition, destructive techniques cannot detect the miniscule changes made in mechanical...

Ultrasonic guided waves reflection from simple dent in pipe for defect rate estimation and parameters determination of axisymmetric wave generation source

In this paper, the reflection of ultrasonic guided waves from simple dent in pipes has been investigated using finite element method and the relationship between reflection coefficient of these waves and deformation rate has been determined. Also, the effect of the parameters of wave generation source on the generated wave field has been investigated using normal modes expansion method. At firs...

Characterisation of frozen orange juice by ultrasound and wavelet analysis

Ultrasound technology was used to analyse the freezing behaviour of orange juice. The ultrasonic properties of orange juice, specifically velocity and attenuation coefficient, were characterised as the temperature was decreased from 20 to −50 ◦C. The results were compared with NMR free induction decay data and correlated with the amount of unfrozen water present in the frozen sample. The veloci...
